Travelling without a plan is great. The backpack and enough money for food, bus, train, boat and bed for three – four weeks… My interests are many and different. But whatever I do and wherever I am, I always find great pleasure in knowing foreign languages. Norwegian is my mother tongue, but I manage English quite well. German and French are my foreign languages no 2 and 3. At the moment I "study" Portuguese in my own, original way (Antonio, Emilia and Marcelo are my good helpers). Learn some Spanish and Italian, too!

Hi Ellen…

Thank you for stopping by Blog Quest.

I enjoyed the kayak video. Now that is something I would enjoy on a calm smooth as glass lake. Our Table Rock Lake here in the Ozarks is a wonderful place. But nothing better than the Boundary Waters of Minnesota where only canoes and kayaks are allowed.

Enjoy your travels and no more black eyes…Greg

Hi, Ellen, how are you?  Here everything is fine.  My team was beaten by Corinthians on state finals so Ronaldo's team is the champion of São Paulo State.  The second match of the finals was this last Sunday.  Ronaldo was elected the best player of the championship.  Check this story.  This weekend it will start the Brazilian League (Campeonato Brasileiro).  And we still have 5 teams on Libertadores Cup: (Cruzeiro - Minas Gerais; São Paulo e Palmeiras - São Paulo, Sport Recife - Pernambuco; Grêmio - Rio Grande do Sul).  I wish you a nice week!

Going north is what I love the most…

Måke3 kopi

…but going south is what I’m doing tomorrow. After seven wonderful days in Bodø. This northern city of my childhood always keeps its promises. There are always new adventures for an openminded person. My yellow heroes Bodø/Glimt lost another match. That was this year’s Down. Things are getting serious now. But they’re gonna win on Sunday! I’ll be there, so I know it!

Glimtbussen3

Great bus they have in Bodø! I simply fell in love with it :-D

This time I took my kayak to the islands Helligvær west of Bodø. And what a wonderful place!!! I had a short trip out there last year, but when I returned this time it was all so much more than I had expected! There’s always a little windy out there – what else can you expect when the highest hill is 40 meters over the sea level? Still, this time we had almost no wind, I went kayaking out on the open sea, I went fishing in my bikini (coming up on Youtube!), and we had of course 24H sunshine!

DSC_0605

I rented a 3 rooms’ cabin for 700 kr/night (€80 / $110). Two bedrooms. We could have been a normal family living together there.

Hytter Helligvær2

Helligvær has got a local store with everything that you need for a stay like that. No luxury, but that was not what I was looking for. Do not even think of buying dinner – you find it in the sea! If you want to read more about Helligvær, try my newspaper article from last year:

Helligvær - an island for every day of the year

Shooting stars :-)

The expression “shooting star” has become a new meaning to me. Usually we talk about falling stars on a dark sky. In my world a shooting star is a Rising Star on a Bright Sky. And I have seen the phenomenon twice in a week! First on the TV from Bodø, then live in Fredrikstad.

Anders Konradsen2

Anders

Like always (…) I’m talking about football, and the two shooting stars are Daniel Stensland (19) and Anders Ågnes Konradsen (18). The two young Bodø/Glimt players are more than well trained, they love the game of football, and they score goals!

Daniel Stensland

Daniel

Daniel scored his first goal against LSK last week, and yesterday against FFK it was Anders’s turn. Both goals were the results of smart, fast and good football.

Next Sunday I’ll be in Bodø to watch them live again. That’s gonna be so much FUN!

Takk for kampen

The whole team applauding the supporters after the game. We appreciate that!

He’s back! – and so am I ;-)

Thiago og Willis2

Thiago scored again yesterday. Smack!

 Thiago goal VIF 1

Great ball from Willis to Thiago’s head

Thiago goal VIF 2

Goal keeper Troy Perkins lifts his hand – that’s all he can manage

Thiago goal VIF 3

Thiago follows the ball with his eyes. Perkins has got no choice but to do the same – the ball is far out of reach.

Too bad we didn’t win that game – we so much deserved to – but life isn’t always fair. Once again there was a  terrible penalty kick involved :-(  We lost again, ok. But we’re definitely on the right way now. I see players who work together, players who want to score goals. And finally – like I said – Thiago is back. When he is back, I feel back, too :-D

A Star is Born – in Bodø

Daniel Stensland3

His name is Daniel Stensland, and he’s FAST, he’s SMART, he’s YOUNG, and he SCORES GOALS…!!!

We needed to show the world that we’re good enough. And we did! Unfortunately we had only one goal and one point. But the quality of the players was so much higher! Especially Daniel Stensland was a problem to the LSK players all through the game.

Daniel Stensland4

GOAL…!!!!

Coach Kåre Ingebrigtsen is truly satisfied with his young forward. And so am I ;-)

Makeup? Oh no, not me…

Ellen blått øye

I once got a lipstick from my sister. I think it was back in 1990. Last year I bought myself a new one. Not because I needed it, there was plenty left on my sister’s gift, but I wanted a change…

I never decoded the secrets of makeup. Isn’t it fun, then, when nature comes with its colorful blessings? Like this purple/black eye that was given me in a football game? Have a look at my last blog, and you will see that my students have caught me at the right moment – the beautiful eye is marked on the caricature of me as well.

In such situations being single may be very convenient. There is no man involved to be blamed for the damage ;-)

ME – the way my students see me :-D

Ellen teacher

THIS – is me…

Painted by Adin, Fredrik and Helge, three of my 10F students.

We had an episode this winter with some suspicious bananas, and one of the girls yelled “ÆSJ!” (=YUCK!)

Then we have had a strict teacher who has been talking about Bodø/Glimt all through the year – and of course a little about maths and science as well, from time to time…

As you may see, this drawing still is a little unfinished. Yesterday, at our ceremony with our 10th graders, the finished drawing was on the wall, and when everything was over I could bring it home.

Being caricatured is a great honor ;-)

Our students – simply the best!

10 klasse og ordfører - Kopi

Last week was BUSY…! Preparing my students for their oral exams I had long and hard days. But definitely, this is the part of my job that I like the most, because this week makes the students give everything.

I had a group of 10 students on Thursday in the subject Religion and ethical thinking. And what a success!!! Four of them got the highest grade, which is a 6 in Norway. At these exams we have an external examiner, and to one of my students he said, “Unfortunately I cannot give you a 7!”

The others did very well, too – the average grade was 4,8 - and I can only say, that

OUR STUDENTS – THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST!

The photo shows some of our 10th graders with the chairman of the county council.  They were all examined in different subjects this week. English, Norwegian, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, religion/ethical thinking, social studies, history and geography.

Sleep well!

This is my new bed! Think I’m gonna have some gooooood nights here?

Oh yeah :-D

By the way, I bought an armchair, too!

Stop writing, Tom-Kåre! Immediately!

Bodø/Glimt were REALLY GOOD last year. Then in the middle of the season they played some bad games. The total result was good, though. This year has been a catastrophe so far. We lost 0-4  against Start last Sunday, and today we lost 0-4 again, this time against Rosenborg.

First I didn’t know what was happening. Now I think I have found out. It’s Tom-Kåre! The so called expert in the internet paper www.ab24.no (I used to work for them myself). He writes analytic reports after the games, and there’s always a photo of him beside the text. He started writing these reports after the first top league match in 2008.

Now, the photo of Tom-Kåre has changed over the months, and what a change…!!! Look at this:

The GOOD…Tom Kåre Staurvik1

The BAD… Tom Kåre Staurvik2

The UGLY…Tom Kåre Staurvik3

The TERMINATOR   Tom Kåre Staurvik4

The quality of the team has changed in about the same rythm as the changing of photos. I believe that the expression in his face has an effect on the result of the game. So stop writing, Tom-Kåre! Immediately!
